Joint pain in the winter: Keeping warm can help with joint pain in the winter.

Regular exercise can help keep your joints and body in good shape.

Make sure you get enough vitamin D in your diet to keep your bones and joints healthy.

Joint pain becomes more common as the winter season approaches.

Other than the elderly, there are other causes of joint and muscle pain in the winter that can affect people of all ages.

"During the winter season, when the temperature is low, the muscles may go into spasm. The joints also contract and tighten in the winters, so a joint that has already been affected even a little bit starts hurting," Dr. Sanjay Agarwala explains. Another reason is insufficient vitamin D levels.

Vitamin D deficiency can result in muscle and joint pain.

"Swelling of the cartilage and lining membrane, higher sensitivity of joint pain receptors, tightness of the ligaments and muscles, lack of joint movements due to inactivity, and hampered circulation of the nourishing fluid in the joint" says Dr. Ashish Jain.

Compression garments or wraps for the joints, such as the knees, are recommended.

A proper diet rich in protein, calcium, and vitamins D and C is also necessary for the joints and muscles. Adequate hydration is also necessary.

Joint tightness can be relieved by elevating the legs.

A protein-rich diet can help keep your joints in good shape.

Swelling is visible in the joint, which is especially asymmetric.

People with underlying joint issues like arthritis and gout usually experience an exacerbation of pains during the winter.
