Step Toward Stopping Your Heel Pain

Heel pain is one of the most common foot and ankle problems that we see.

Over the last few months, we've noticed a significant increase in the amount of heel pain in our office.

Today, we'll look at plantar fasciitis, which is the most common cause of heel pain.

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia, a ligament in the bottom of the foot.

Post-static dyskinesia is the hallmark symptom of plantar fasciitis.

A thorough history from the patient as well as a physical exam are used to diagnose plantar fasciitis.

The goal is to treat the pain as soon as possible and prevent it from returning, which is common with plantar fasciitis.

Stretching exercises and ice: Your doctor will give you some simple at-home stretches and exercises to help you loosen up your plantar fascia.

Steroid injection: Direct injection of medicine into the plantar fascia relieves pain while also controlling inflammation in the area.

They're usually flimsy and don't provide adequate arch support to protect the plantar fascia.

Night splint: This device is prescribed by your doctor and holds the plantar fascia in a fixed position while you sleep, promoting stretching, reducing inflammation, and reducing the pain you feel when you first get out of bed in the morning.

Their expertise allows them to manipulate the plantar fascia directly with various modalities to alleviate current pain and prevent long-term pain.

Medications: Pain relievers and oral steroids, for example, may help to relieve the pain and inflammation caused by plantar fasciitis and may be a good addition to your treatment plan.

Immobilization: If the plantar fascia is too inflamed to be treated while you walk, you may need to be immobilized.

The plantar fascia is then separated from the heel bone in a portion.

While plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain, there are a variety of other conditions that can produce similar symptoms, some of which are more serious than others.
